The Newest Atlanta Housewife

Kandi Burruss was ¼ of the R&B girl group Xscape who rose to fame in the early 1990s. Alongside sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott and childhood friend Tameka Cottle, single, "Just Kickin' It," on which Burruss sang lead vocals. The group continued to gain a fan base with their other singles, such as "Tonight," "Love On My Mind," "Understanding." Soon after, they released their debut album, Hummin' Comin' At 'Cha in 1993, which went platinum.

In the beginning, all of the girls in Xscape shared lead vocals, but as they were starting their second album, Burruss and LaTocha Scott took the lead on most of their songs, which brought tension in the group. Burruss sung lead on two singles off their second album Off The Hook, which were, "Feels So Good" and "Can't Hang".

In 1998, the group released their third album Traces of My Lipstick, but then broke up.

Solo and Peach Candy

After the demise of the group, Burruss moved on with a solo career. During this time, her ability to write hits came into play. In 1999, she and former bandmate from Xscape, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, wrote "No Scrubs" for the girl group, TLC, which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and led them to winning the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song that year. A year later, Burruss released her debut album Hey Kandi, along with two singles, "Don't Think I'm Not" and "Cheatin' On Me." Her album achieved lukewarm success, and she was dropped by Columbia Records, leading her to return to full-time songwriting. In 2002, Burruss had her first born, a girl named Riley.

In 2007, Burruss formed the hip hop duo, Peach Candy with the Atlanta, Georgia MC, Rasheeda and released a couple of songs and mixed tapes. Over the course of ten years, Burruss has written songs for various artists, which resulted in her winning the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Award, becoming the first woman in history to achieve the honor. In addition to "No Scrubs", Kandi's writing credits include: "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Bug A Boo" by Destiny's Child, "There You Go" by Pink, as well as album tracks for the likes of Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, NSYNC, Usher, Mya, Joe, and Whitney Houston.

As of March 2009, Kandi joined the cast of the reality show The Real Housewives of Atlanta for its second season (replacing former cast member DeShawn Snow from Season One), which will premiere on the BRAVO Network on July 30th, 2009.

Kandi is currently plotting a return to the music scene with a new album titled "B.L.O.G.", scheduled for release later this year (4th Quarter of 2009).

In her own words: "I came up with the concept based on things that were relevant to what's going on in my life now, including the show and what things have been written about me and my fiancée by bloggers," she admits. "The whole album isn't about the show but there are definitely songs inspired from the show like "Fly Above," and "It Must Be Good."

Her promo single for the new album is titled "Trade Him In" and features rapper Gucci Mane. Additionally, she is featured on new rapper Big Bank Black's single titled "Try It Out", currently gaining buzz at urban radio stations in the Atlanta area.
