Bored At Work

So today is the start of a 3 day 16 hour or more work stretch for me. I honestly don't mind it because I get 4 days off! I'd rather get my days in and over with to be honest. Not too much has been going on with me....just working, school, and more work!lol Gotta stack that bread! I've been in a really peaceful and happy place lately. Honestly speaking its the happiest and restful I've felt in a loooooog time. No drama, no arguing, no stress, no worries really. The only thing I've been worried about is finding a good place to live when I move. Which I've narrowed down 6 good places so when I visit orlando next month I can check them out. I gotta make sure the neighborhood is good, clean, quiet stuff like that. I've also setup two tours with colleges as well so that I can finish up finally! I believe its really starting to sink in I'm leavin!? Only three months left come March 1st. Hmmmmm....wonder how I will feel when I actually leave? Right now I'm so excited I can't see straight!!!lol Oh well!

My Name Is Lisa Price, and I Am Carol’s Daughter

My mom’s name was Carol and I named my company Carol’s Daughter because it all started with being my mother’s child and how she, my father, and my family made me who and what I am today.

Another constant from my childhood is my love for fragrance. I remember falling in love with the scent of roses in Nana’s yard, the smell of my mommy’s face cream on her cheeks, my daddy’s spicy cologne, and the most fragrant room in the house – the kitchen. Everything from the sweet smell of cinnamon and coconut to the warm scent of simmering curry emanated from everyone’s favorite space. It all happened in the kitchen.

In addition to the delicious recipes that Nana made for us to eat, she was also known for her wonderful hair pomade. Her secret recipe delivered great results, was a staple in our family and was also used by neighbors and friends. All of this history led me into my kitchen, many years later, to create. From the beginning, my creations started with a beautiful fragrance and the best ingredients, before evolving into product. Nana too was very particular about her ingredients. She only wanted the best for her family. I bring this same approach to Carol’s Daughter.

Being Carol’s daughter and Marguerite’s granddaughter meant that my life was filled with recipes. Marguerite, affectionately known as Nana, had a recipe for everything.
Hot lemonade for a sore throat, Orange Peel Tea for an upset stomach or warm ginger ale for digestion. These recipes remedies never took the place of traditional medicine but they were usually our family’s first course of action.
Goodness from goodness. Thank you for the opportunity to share my passion for beautiful, well-made products with you. I trust you will enjoy the recipes I have prepared: as always, brought to you in kindness and made with love. Peace and blessings.

Love,

Lisa

Motivation

" I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. "

Maya Angelou

I read this quote and I absolutely loved it! I am a huge fan of Dr. Angelou and this just caught me so off guard, but then it's so real too! I have so much happiness, dedication, fulfillment, and drive right now that it's not even funny. After I had the talk with my god mom and also just going to church and reading my bible more I'm just starting to see the old me coming back.

I had felt like I was someone else for so long that I didn't even recognize myself? As sad as that sounds it's so true. When certain things in life happen and you have certain relationships and bonds with people you almost find yourself changing to fit their needs. Now you may or may not notice it at first, but once you do it's almost like it's too late?

Now I truly appreciate and respect all those who have come into my life. No matter if it was for a Reason, Season, Or a Lifetime, because they all have taught me so many things. I posted a poem awhile back entitled, " Everyone Can't Be In Your Front Row ". It's so true, everyone can't be there, until you are there yourself! That's how I feel right now. I'm the main attraction, the center of attention, I'm front row center for myself.

I'm not trying to sound cocky or arrogant, I'm merely using those examples as a metaphor to express that I'm taking care of me for me now, and everyone else should feel lucky to have me decide to let you be a part of my inner circle and care for you as I'm about to start caring for myself again. Wow! I'd never thought I would say something like that because I was always so focused on everyone else that I lost focus of myself.

Well that's over with! It's a brand new day and I'm so ready to, " Grab the world by it's lapel " and live a happy fulfilling life. Not matter if it's by myself or with a family. I'm gonna be the woman that I was always meant to be and hopefully an inspiration to my younger female cousins and others to do the same. I've been getting business in order to move and I've been so excited!!

I was talking to a good friend of mine today about me moving and my feelings on it. I told him that I almost feel guilty about leaving because of my true friends, brothers, nephews, and my godparents who I know will miss me terribly, but at the same time I can't effin wait to leave!!! I'm so happy where my life is right now that I cant see straight. Everything I've been thinking and talking about is really happening! There is still alot of things that are still up in the air, but bottom line is I'm the happiest I've been in a long time.

So watch out world, cause this young woman is about to start kicking ass and taking names!!lol Shine in 09 or get left behind!!!!!

Baby Phat: The Fall 2009 Collection

Last week, Kimora Lee Simmons told the Wall Street Journal that she, too, has felt the need to downsize the usually over-the-top Baby Phat runway show due to the economic climate. She cut her invitees in half, chose a smaller venue (Gotham Hall) and decided to concentrate on offering what retailers and editors would really want to see. While she delivered on the first two, she failed on the last.

You even felt the minimalist approach when gazing at her front row, which is notorious for having more celebrities than any other show during New York Fashion Week. Socialite Tinsley Mortimer, 'Sex and the City' and 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' costume designer Patricia Field, R&B stars Monica and Mario, and Pharrell ingénue Teyana Taylor. Yup, that was it. Not even best friends Tyra Banks or Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley were in sight.

The formula to Baby Phat's success has been offering fantasy that lends itself to the lifestyle the Baby Phat girl wants to get in on. This time, the models wore items that may actually hit retail floors if they haven't already (read: non-fashion forward). The fabric's quality was much less expensive than seasons past and, usually, Kimora takes more risks in the trendsetting department.

The endless parade of cropped jackets shown in leather, wool, mostly black, studded, Swarovski crystal-emblazoned is indeed an urban girl staple, but none of it felt new. And the ruffled dresses? Well, even I wore one last night, as did a few other girls, so we were like "huh?" Even the KLS dresses at the end took a few cues from Kimora's previous take on Halston. But I digress. There were also a few stunners.

The jumpsuits, shimmer items and even some of the Phat Farm for men will do. The fedoras, leather trench coat, leather blazers and a buffalo plaid shirt under a flannel bubble vest were current. It's still metropolitan, but these pieces can take him from day to night.

While I was very happy for the visibly preggers Lee, who smiled at her man Djimon Honsou sitting front row next to her ex, Russell Simmons, I have to admit, overall, it still wasn't her best.

So what do yall think about it????

Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy is a Manhattan-based fashion designer. She first became well-known as the romantic interest of Damon Dash, the hip hop businessman. They married on January 15, 2005 and have two daughters named Ava and Tallulah Ruth. Her father is a first generation Indian (Tamil) immigrant and her mother is of Dutch ancestry. Roy grew up in Northern California in January 1975, and graduated from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland with a degree in communications. Her primary reason for attending this Christian university was due to the demands of her parents, particularly her father, who is a Seventh-day Adventist.

Rachel's first job in fashion was at a Contempo Casuals clothing outlet in her hometown at age 14. After college, she came to New York City, where she worked as a stylist for magazines and music videos. She became an intern at the urban fashion line Rocawear, where she rose to become creative director of the women's and children's divisions and also met her future husband. In 2005 she launched her own eponymous fashion collection. In early 2006 Roy received a Bollywood industry award for her contribution to American fashion.

'Madea Goes to Jail' Over No. 1 Hit Comedy

Tyler Perry scored a big victory on the typically slow Oscar weekend, walking away with the No. 1 movie, "Madea Goes to Jail," which raked in $41.1 million.

All four of the cross-dressing comedian's "Madea" movies have opened in first place, but this latest installment was the highest-grossing ever for Perry's trademark grandma character.

"It just tells you the power of the brand that is Tyler Perry," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.

Liam Neeson's kidnap thriller "Taken" snatched second place with $11.4 million in ticket sales in its fourth weekend.

"Coraline" jumped to No. 3 with an $11 million take, as the romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You" fell to No. 4 with sales of $8.5 million.

Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire" climbed from ninth to No. 5 after earning $8.1 million.

Last weekend's champion, a remake of "Friday the 13th," fell to No. 6 with a take of $7.8 million while the new college comedy "Fired Up!" failed to ignite much interest and landed No. 9 with $6 million in sales.

Shopping and mall-inspired comedies proved to have some staying power as "Confessions of a Shopaholic" earned $7.02 million and seventh place. "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" held the No. 8 spot with $7 million.

Rounding out the top 10 was the financial thriller "The International," which finished No. 10 with $4.45 million in sales.

Nicole Richie To Have Second Baby

It's not time for Nicole Richie to put away the onesies just yet.

The former "Simple Life" star and boyfriend Joel Madden are expecting their second child, zap2it.com reports.

Madden made the announcement Saturday night on the Web site for his band Good Charlotte.

"What's better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister!" Madden, 29, writes. "God has truly blessed my family. Hope your all feeling as good as i am right now."

The couple had their first child, daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden in January 2008.

Richie, 27, had since returned to the small screen to make a guest appearance on NBC's "Chuck" as a former classmate of Yvonne Strahovski's character Sarah.

My Ride or Die.....My Sister....My Heart

I've been gone for a minute, but I'm back with the jump off!!!lol Just kidding, I was getting my Lil Kim on for a minute there..lol I just want to give my blogger fam a better feeling for who I am and what I stand for in case you don't know or don't have a clue already.

This post is actually a tribute to my best female friend in the whole entire nation!!We go back since high school and we've been girls every since. Her family is my family and vice versa. There has never been a time where we haven't been there for each other. Even when she moved to Fl we were still tight as ever.

I must admit I don't really have too many female friends, because let's be honest, girls can be very catty and just too much!! Most of the females I do hang around are family or dag on near close to it. Now don't get me wrong I have found some true blue females out there, but Leslie, she's not only my best friend, she's my ace, my dog, my confidant, my ride or die, my sister!!! So with that being said here's a poem I found so fitting:

What Is A Friend

Some people say friend's are great, some say they are good to have around.
Some say that a friend is a treasure and that they are hard to be found.
Some people say that a friend is someone that is honest and true.
But when somebody asks me what a friend is, I simply point to you.

Side Bar: The 1st picture of us was the day after high school graduation!! We dipped off to NYC, New Jersey, and Philly for a week!! Wow....So much fun! Notice how tiny we were!!lol That came from all those years of cheer leading!!lol The rest of the pics was from my first time visiting her in Orlando when she was like 8 mths preggers with my nephew!! How fly did she still look???

I've also been grinding it out at work and in school. Both have been very demanding, but all worth it in the end. Work has been very busy lately but it has been drama free the last week. And school is good, gettin A's and B's so I can live with that!!lol I will be glad when this qtr is over though, I'm not gonna lie!!

Ummm lets see what else?? I have also been trying to plan out my next two vacations. I wasn't able to make it down to Orlando due to certain circumstances. But I did take those days off to relax and just take time out for ME! I sooo needed it!! But I will be re-booking my trip to Orlando and the other trip is not quite decided?? I wanted to do it in April-May, but I'm thinking I may just wait til my B'Day weekend and hit up Cali??

I've also been getting ready for the big move I've been discussing as well. I'm in the process of job and housing searches. Right now I'm just kind of scamming through stuff, but I will be hittin them hard about this time next month. My goal is to be moved and settled before my birthday. So mid-end of June is the goal.

Well I don't have too much more to talk about. I didn't want to talk about the normal stuff I've been seeing already that's all out in the news....that's already over blogged and talked about. So I hope everyone is well and had a wonderful Valentine's Day!! Which reminds me....mine was cool & lo key. Just dinner then chillin wit my cuzzo 4 a girls night in!! It's Almost About That Time......

For people to start going on Spring Break and just vacations in general. So since I'm such a huge summer person and I love the beaches and anything that has to do with water I've already been checking out a few bathing suits!!(Like I really need anymore??)

First up is Red Carter.....
As flamboyant as any of his stunning bikini designs, South Beach swimwear designer Red Carter is determined to make every woman who dons one of his suits feel sexy and confident.Red's a bit of a Renaissance man, who has taken his experiences in competitive swimming, high fashion, and entertainment, and channeled them into a very exciting line of swimwear fashions that express the true flavor of life in South Beach, Florida.

In fact, Red is as unique as any of his designs, so who wouldn't want to talk to a man who bills himself as the "Austin Powers of the bikini business"?

I was born in the OC, in Santa Ana California, and went to College in LA at Otis School of Art and Design. It was like going to school on project runway- intense, competitive and inspiring.

After I graduated, I worked for a host of Companies in LA, including Guess Jeans, Mossimo, Esprit and Oscar de la Renta. I always wanted to have my own collection, but I never knew what I wanted to do or say... and then a light came on.

Taraji P. Henson

Taraji Penda Henson (born September 11, 1970) is an Academy Award-nominated American actress. She is best known for her roles as Yvette in Baby Boy (2001), Shug in Hustle and Flow (2005) and Queenie in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).

Henson was born in Southeast Washington, DC, the daughter of Bernice, a manager at Woodward & Lothrop, and Boris Henson, a janitor. She is the great granddaughter of Matthew Henson, one of the explorers who discovered the Geographic North Pole. Her first and middle name are of Swahili origin with her first name meaning "hope" and her middle name meaning "love."

Henson attended Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, MD. She first attended NC A&T, where she started a major in Electrical Engineering. She later transferred to Howard University. She worked two jobs—in the morning as a secretary at the Pentagon and in the night as a singing and dancing waitress on a dinner cruise ship- The Spirit of Washington- to pay for Howard University. She graduated with a degree in Theater Arts. Her son Marcel was born in 1995; his father, M.J. was murdered in 1997. Taraji's father died in 2006.

Henson has said in an interview that her philosophy in life is: "Love as often as you can. Dance like nobody's watching. Travel. Eat. Try new foods because, like my character says, you never know what's coming for you and when it's time to let go, you got to let go."

Ms. Henson has appeared in the films Four Brothers (2005), Talk To Me (2007), Smokin' Aces (2007), Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys (2008), and Not Easily Broken (2009). In late 2008, she starred opposite Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Henson plays the role of Queenie, Benjamin's mother, in a performance which has garnered critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She noted in an interview that, "Queenie is the embodiment of unconditional love."

Henson has also been a cast member on several television shows, including Lifetime Television's The Division and ABC's Boston Legal for one season. Her recurring appearances in television include the character Angela Scott on the ABC television show "Eli Stone" in December 2008. She has guest-starred on several television shows, such as The WB show Smart Guy playing the role of Monique (1997–1998), the Fox Television show House in 2005 and the CBS Television show CSI in 2006.

Henson made her singing debut in Hustle & Flow; she provided the vocals for the Three 6 Mafia track "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp". The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2006, giving Three 6 the distinction of becoming the first Black hip-hop act to win in the category. Henson performed the song at the Oscars on March 5, 2006 with the group.

Henson has made several appearances on music videos. Henson appeared in the rapper Common's music video called Testify in 2005 as the wife of a soon to be convicted murderer. On December 5, 2008, Jamie Foxx premiered his new music video "Just Like Me" on TBS featuring Henson and T.I.

I love her!!! I remember first seeing her on the old tv show " Smart Guy ". When I saw her in a bigger role was of course in " BabyBoy ". She has come a looooong way from those " Smart Guy " days. I mean she's playing Brad Pitts mother in one of the biggest movies of the year!!! Keep on rockin it out momma!!!

Strength

Strength is what you have that's stronger than ever
Strength is the only power that is stronger than any power of mankind
Strength is something that gives you the power to carry on
Strength gives you the the power to help someone you love
Strength is a power that you have within yourself

This is something that I truly believe in and I have been trying to live by since Jan 1st 2009. I will admit it has definitely been trying to do so because there is so much negativity around. It's like I'm trying to be a ray of sunlight and people want to keep bringing in the dark clouds around me?? How whack is that??? I've had a long talk with my dad and a long talk with the man above to come to an understanding as to why must all the drama and bad things keep surrounding me? Am I being punished? Is it the company I keep? Is it because I don't take sides and I'm a neutral party? Is it because I'm being tested for something greater?

I have all these thoughts running through my head and I cant come up with a logical explanation? I'm a very good person, I work hard, I'm respectable, dependable, compassionate, funny, adventurous, trustworthy, honest, and fair. But I still feel like I get the short end of the stick. Ive been through alot!! More than what everyone would not even believe I went through if I told them. And I'm still here and I'm still standing, but I feel like there has been this fuse burning and burning and its about to burn out!! That's exactly how my mind body and soul feels. JUST COMPLETELY BURNED OUT I'm not saying im the only one who goes through this either. Im sure many and plenty of people have, are, or will be going through this. Im just wondering, when will it end??

My god mom always tells me, " Ran, you have to stop doing and worrying about others and worry and do for yourself! Stop putting yourself last. Stop worrying about you not being there for your family, friends, co-workers, etc. So what if they get mad, where are they at when you need them? Are they at your beck and call? Are they worried about your health, your mind, trouble at work, your grieving process??" When she said that to me it really hit home and made me think about all of that??? And she had a good valid point, No matter if it was harsh or not. She had a great point..........To be continued.....????

A Little Bit Of Cavalli

I just love this designer!!! Shoes and clothes are just on point to me!!
